Tiger Woods by Jeff Benedict and Armen Keteyian

Tiger Woods by Jeff Benedict and Armen Keteyian

Tiger Woods by Jeff Benedict and Armen Keteyian is considered by many to be the defining biography of one of the greatest golfers of all-time. The book relies on interviews with over 250 people from every corner of Tiger’s life in an attempt the answer to the question of who Woods really is.

The book goes beyond the often glowing headlines to find out who Tiger is and what made him. There are enlightening stories about Tiger’s father and the lengths that he went to ensure his son’s success and earn money for himself. One such story is that Tiger’s sports agency, International Management Group (IMG), made $50,000 annual payments to Tiger’s father, Earl Woods, as a “talent scout” while Tiger was still an amateur. There are many more details about his father, who passed in 2006 and now lays in an unmarked grave.

Other stories show a lack of professionalism or gratitude that Tiger showed a number of people along the way and relationships that were exploited by him. Tiger’s first love, Dina Gravell, is interviewed and tells the story of their painful breakup that was seemingly engineered by Tiger’s parents. The book also goes in-depth into his infidelity scandals and even his treatment for sex-addiction at the Pine Grove facility in Hattiesburg, Mississippi.

The book is not tabloid negativity though. Instead, it paints a portrait of Woods and the impossible weight that was put on his shoulders by his father and then, later, the world. His greatness and dominance over the sport of golf is celebrated throughout while giving a full picture of the type of personality one needs to have to achieve his level of greatness and what it costs the person who does it.

The Second Life of Tiger Woods by Michael Bamberger: While much of Tiger Woods focuses on his rise and then fall, this book focuses simply on his comeback to win the Masters in 2019. The book goes into the many struggles that Tiger went through to get to that point from the injuries to the scandal, and details his road back to the top.

My Life in and out of the Rough: The Truth Behind All That Bull**** You Think You Know About Me by John Daly: John Daly is right there with Tiger as one of the most fascinating golfers of all-time.
