H.G. Bissinger’s Friday Night Lights: A Town, a Team, and a Dream is a legendary book about high school football that lead to the release of a great movie and legendary television show.
Friday Night Lights is the ageless record of the Permian Panthers of Odessa – the most dominating high school football team in Texas history. Socially and racially isolated, Odessa isn’t known to be a spot enthusiastic about dreams. That changes every Friday night from September to December, when the Panthers play football, and dreams can work out as expected.
With candor and sympathy, Pulitzer Prize champ H. G. Bissinger extraordinarily catches a season in the life of Odessa and shows how determined commitment to the group shapes the local area and motivates – and now and again breaks – the young people who wear the Panthers’ garbs.
